The Importance of Vitamins for Health

Vitamins contribute to essential bodily functions, from wound healing to strengthening the immune system. If your diet doesn’t contain enough vitamins, you could experience a deficiency, which can lead to lethargy, low mood, muscle weakness, and bowel hitches.

    Fat-Soluble vs Water-Soluble Vitamins

Here are two types of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble. These two types depend on the substance in which they dissolve.

    • Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Fat-soluble vitamins do not dissolve in water and are therefore more easily absorbed into the bloodstream. These vitamins are deposited in adipose tissue and muscles.
    • Water-soluble vitamins are vitamin C and the B vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in marine and are not typically stored in the body. Since this type of vitamin is not stored in the body but is excreted in the urine, it is necessary to consume it regularly to avoid deficiency.

    13 Types of Vitamins

If we break down vitamins into their components, they can be divided into 13 types. This includes all the B vitamins.

    Vitamin A

Vitamin A, or retinol, comes in two forms: prepared vitamin A and provitamin A.

    Benefits of Vitamin A

Vitamin A is responsible for strengthening the resistant system. Its main benefits are:

    • Promotes normal iron metabolism.
    • Helps maintain healthy skin: Vitamin A regulates sebum production, which helps maintain optimal skin hydration levels, making it an ideal supplement.
    • Helps maintain normal vision: This type of vitamin is necessary to convert the light reaching the retina into a signal that the brain can transform into an image.
    • Helps strengthen the immune system: It indorses the formation of mucous barriers that trap bacteria and is also involved in making white blood cells.

    Vitamin A Deficiency

A deficiency in any vitamin can hurt our health. These are the signs of vitamin A deficiency you should watch out for:

    • Dry skin and hair
    • Impaired night vision
    • Throat or chest infections

    Sources of Vitamin A

To increase your levels of this vitamin, include the following foods and additions in your diet:

    • Vitamin A supplements
    • Green leafy vegetables
    • Cheese
    • Eggs
    • Oily fish

    B-Complex Vitamins

There are eight types of B vitamins, collectively called B vitamins or B complex. Each type of vitamin plays a different role in maintaining health.
